Grand western Horseboat Company

Traditional Horse-Drawn Narrowboat Canal Trips

Along the towpath the mellow 'clip-clop' of the Shire Horse's hooves awakens those ever-enchanting memories of a leisurely bygone era... You can travel along this beautiful Canal on a traditionally painted Horse-drawn Barge, the only one in the West Country, pulled in the age-old manner by Prince and Jim the Shire horses.

The traditional horse-drawn barge operates in all weathers and has varying lengths of trips to choose from. The longer trips make a stop halfway, which provides a break for a leisurely walk and a chance to say 'hello' to the horse, as well as the Collie dogs. Our shorter trips are scheduled with children in mind and these trips do not make a stop.
